Rania Attieh

Rania Attieh is an Independent Spirit Awards writer and director living in Brooklyn, NY. She is a Guggenheim and a Rockefeller Fellow in film. Together with her long time collaborator Daniel Garcia she has written and directed many award winning films.

She is in prep for her latest feature, a musical, Queen of the Falls developed at Searchlight and produced by Oscar Winner Mollye Asher (Nomadland) and Grammy and Oscar winner Jon Batiste who is also doing the music. She developed her first original series for FX Everybody Knows produced by Sarah Condon for Freemantle.

She has directed episodes of The Resort for Peacock, written by Andy Siara and produced by Universal and Esmail Corp. She was nominated by IMAGEN Foundation for Best TV Directors for El Muerto, one of four episodes she directed for WB horror anthology series Two Sentence Horror Stories, now on Netflix.

Initials SG, starring Emmy award winner Julianne Nicholson won the Nora Ephron Award for excellence in filmmaking by a female writer/director at Tribeca Film Festival. Acquired in the US by HBO. H. winner of the Venice Biennale College-Cinema production grant, was presented at Venice Film festival, Sundance Film Festival and the Berlinale. H. was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award 2015 for Best Supporting Actress for Robin Bartlett as Helen. Ok, Enough, Goodbye, 2011, her feature-film debut, received many supporting grants and many awards (Abu Dhabi Film Fest, San Francisco, Torino, BAFICI and Belfort).

Rania has been teaching Directing at Columbia University School of the Arts since 2018. She also mentors screenwriting labs around the world (Mexico, MENA region, US). Recently she mentored series in development for Netflix Brazil as well as in Saudi Arabia for Neom X Maflam. Both labs organized by Tatino film. She has served as a film jury member for many film festivals and grants. She is repped by WME and Anonymous Content.
