Erroll McDonald

Erroll McDonald, Vice President and Executive Editor at Alfred A. Knopf, has published, in his decades long career, among other luminaries: Romare Bearden, Harold Bloom, Italo Calvino, Patrick Chamoiseau, Sandra Cisneros, Julio Cortazar, Carlos Fuentes, Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Alan Hollinghurst, Kazuo Ishiguro, Simon Johnson, Randall Kennedy, Fran Lebowitz, Arthur Levitt, Wangari Maathai, Toni Morrison, Kary B. Mullis, Ngugi wa Thiongo, Richard Pryor, Manuel Puig, David Reich, Salman Rushdie, Lucy Sante, Nina Simone, Wole Soyinka, Colm Toibin, and John Edgar Wideman.  He has served as chair of the board of directors of the Center for Fiction, and as a trustee of PEN America.

He is the 2025 recipient of the American Book Award for Editor/Publisher and of the 2025 Distinguished Leadership in Literacy Award from Literacy Partners.  He is a member of the board of directors of The Brooklyn Rail and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
