Dana Buhl

Dana Buhl is a multidisciplinary artist and educator working across photography, video, installation, and artist books. She received an MFA in Visual Art from Columbia University and a BFA in Photography from Arizona State University, and has studied at the Whitney Independent Study Program and the Visual Studies Workshop.

Her work examines photography’s relationship to images, objects, and systems of information, often through book-based and installation projects addressing technology, labor, and environmental change. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including solo exhibitions at Secret Dungeon (Brooklyn), Mom’s Gallery (New York), and Eyelounge (Phoenix), and group exhibitions at the 58th Venice Biennale (Collateral Event), Artists Space (New York), and Modified Arts (Phoenix).

Buhl is the founder and publisher of Sinkhole Press, an independent platform dedicated to contemporary photography and experimental artist books. At Columbia University’s School of the Arts, she is an Adjunct Assistant Professor and Senior Manager of Photography Facilities, where she teaches analog and digital photography, photobook production, and exhibition practices. She has presented lectures at Cornell University, the School of Visual Arts, and the Cooper Union, and has curated exhibitions and public projects with institutions including the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and The Museum of Walking.
