Professor Mallika Rao Nominated for an Ambie Award for her Podcast 'HiberNation'

Assistant Professor Mallika Rao was recently nominated for an Ambie Award in Best Nonfiction Scriptwriting for her podcast, HiberNationThe podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other podcasting platforms.

In HiberNation, Rao dives into the lives of nearly a dozen people, each with a story to tell about a different facet of sleep. Developed under the network Headspace Studios, HiberNation is a narrative series that reveals the personal stories of scientists, philosophers, artists, children, and everyday people while delving into the dreamy realm and research of sleep.

Established in 2020 by The Podcast Academy, the Ambie Awards, or Awards for Excellence in Audio, are a series of awards celebrating the best podcasts in the industry. Categories include Best Comedy Podcast, Best Business Podcast, Best Podcast Host, Best Podcast for Kids, and Best Interview Podcast, among others. The panel of judges selects up to seven podcasts for each category.

Other nominations for the category of Best Scriptwriting, Non-Fiction include the podcasts Storytime, hosted by actor and filmmaker Seth Rogen, and Death at the Wing, hosted by film director and screenwriter Adam McKay.

Winners of the Ambie Awards will be announced March 22, 2022.

Rao's nonfiction work can be found or is forthcoming at places such as T Magazine, New York, the New York Times and Believer Magazine, and her recent fiction can be found at Catapult Magazine. She teaches writing at Columbia University and NYU’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute.
