Production Policy Update - Phase 2 - new booklet resource & a language update

Hello again,

As we wrap up our Phase 2 education week, I have one final resource to share before Maureen’s Phase 2 classes tomorrow. Please see attached for a reader-friendly Phase 2 booklet. The booklet is attached as a PDF here, but can also be found on the Hub’s Phase 2 Booklet page.

Many, many thanks to the students who helped bring the booklet to fruition, including the original suggestion and later draft input from Donovan Tolledo, and Camille Hamadé, who did most of the design & clarity work on a very tight schedule.

We also have a language change to announce: starting today, the “Health and Safety Manager (HSM)” will be known as the “COVID Compliance Officer (CCO).” All responsibilities and other details in Phase 2 are the exact same for the CCO. At the time we defined and named the role, the industry had not yet settled on a title, and since then has gravitated ever more strongly to CCO. We are following suit, and have changed the language in all Phase 2 documents, including the attached.

See many of you tomorrow! Have a great Friday,

Jenny

Hello All,

We are pleased to announce Phase 2 Production, which expands current production and aligns with testing and other protocols in the industry.

While Phase 2 Production goes into effect today, Monday, November 16, 2020, all filmmaking is subject to local laws and regulations first. You must research the COVID-related social distancing, lockdown, and other government determinations in the area/s you will be filming. Columbia’s Phase 2, or other production policies, do not replace local law.

The text of the attached documents can also be found on these pages of the Hub:

Phase 2 Classes

As you take some time to read and digest the Phase 2 documents, this week will be focused on Phase 2 education. On Wednesday, 11/18, we will post a Phase 2 Testing video that can be watched asynchronously. This Friday, Maureen Ryan will be teaching a Practical Production Class for Phase 2 by cohort. She will send a follow-up email with more details, but please save the times/dates below. The classes will also be recorded.

Practical Production Classes for Phase 2:

Fri, 11/20, 10-11:30a - First Years
Fri, 11/20, 12-1:30p - Research Arts
Fri, 11/20, 3-3:30p - Second Years

COVID Production Stipend

MFA Film students may apply for a stipend to help offset COVID-related production costs for films that complete principal photography by August 13th, 2021.

The COVID Production Stipend amounts are as follows:

3-5s: $300 per film
8-12s: $1000 per film
D4s: $1500 per film
Thesis-level films: $2000 per film

Every student and every project is eligible for the COVID Production Stipend once. (No double-COVID funds awarded to any one project.) We will send an email with application and disbursement details in the next 1-2 weeks.

As always, the Risk Management and Production Planning team welcomes individual questions about Phase 2 as many of you begin to plan productions for this year. Please reach out to me or Ann Czar at [email protected] with any follow-up.

On behalf of the full Production team, we are looking forward to supporting your productions in the upcoming weeks and months.

Have a great week,
Jenny
