Be Here to Love Me at the End of the World by Sasha Fletcher '12 will be published by Penguin Random House on February 15, 2022, and is now available for pre-order.
Fletcher's debut novel is a love story set in a bad dream about America. Following the lives of a couple in love during a cold winter in Brooklyn, Be Here to Love Me at the End of the World delves into topics of permanent debt, secret police, making dinner, and unpaid invoices—right up until the end of the world. Set in a "surreal, funny, and heart-breaking version of reality," Fletcher's novel intertwines the mundane with the sublime, the absurd, and the tragic.
Be Here to Love Me at the End of the World was named a Goodreads Highly Anticipated Debut Novel, a Lit Hub Most Anticipated Book of 2022, a NYLON Best Book of February 2022, and a Philadelphia Inquirer Best New Book of February 2022.
Author Daniel Handler describes the novel as "breathless distraction, omnipresent dread and sudden! glorious! joy! This is a work of far-flung imagination and simultaneously the most realistic novel of our times.”
According to author Sandra Newman, Be Here to Love Me at the End of the World is a "big-hearted, brainy, garrulous novel that is maybe the truest document yet of our life in the neverending end times. Stylistically, it’s a marvel. Every page is full of sentences that deliver a knock-out punch…This book is one of the lights left on in case the angels come.”
Fletcher is also the author of the poetry collection It Is Going To Be A Good Year (Big Lucks Books, 2016), the novella When All Our Days Are Numbered Marching Bands Will Fill the Streets & We Will Not Hear Them Because We Will Be Upstairs in the Clouds (Big Lucks Books, 2019), and several chapbooks of poetry.
