OCT 23 Production Bulletin - update on Phase 2 & first D1:D3 Coursework Exercises
Hello All,
Still at work on Phase 2, with a lot of focus on the Production Testing Plan. Our new goal date to get Phase 2 approved is Monday, November 16. As promised, I’ll send weekly updates until we get there.
The first Coursework Exercises, which begin a week from Monday, will proceed under Phase 1. In addition to the 1st and 2nd year “Risk Management for Exercises” seminars that focus on Phase 1 guidelines, we will be holding a "SOA Film Covid-19 Safety in the Workplace Seminar" for all students on Friday, October 30th, 9am - 12pm. Ann has sent out the Zoom link & will be recording the session for those who cannot make that time on Friday. The seminar is mandatory for 1st years, and strongly recommended for 2nd years in D3 coursework. We hope to see everyone (all students) there!
Please reach out with any thoughts or questions! We’re always happy to hear from you.

This Week’s Top FAQ
Q: What’s the story on social distancing in scenes for cast?
A: From Phase 1 Protocols:
Actors are not required to wear masks during scenes while camera is rolling.
Actors must always maintain 2 feet of distance (no touching between actors), including but not limited to intimate contact. Exception: those in a pre-existing quarantine relationship (incl. family). For those in a pre-existing quarantine relationship, the 2 feet minimum does not apply.
Minimize contact between actors (between 2 and 6 feet without facial cover) to a recommended <1 minute for any single take.
Minimize direct face to face communication between actors when possible, angle the actors and be creative with camera angles.
Recommendation: This set of on-camera social distancing protocols is unlikely to change much with Phase 2 (though we are trying hard to remove that “<1 minute” recommendation!!). As you write new scripts, or revisit pre-pandemic scripts, please keep this in mind. Casting (roommates, or family members) is one way to work with the protocols, but if that is not possible, blocking and camera angles are additional options. We’re open to hearing more ideas, but please know that any ideas must work with the protocols above.
