Two Columbia Films Nominated for Golden Globes

Two films by Columbia filmmakers, The Martian and 99 Homes, have received multiple Golden Globe nominations.

The Martian, produced by Simon Kinberg ’03, is nominated for Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical, Best Director – Motion Picture (Ridley Scott) and Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical (Matt Damon). The critical and commercial hit has surpassed $500 million in global box office revenue and is widely considered a frontrunner for multiple Academy Award nominations, having received Best Director and Best Actor awards from the National Board of Review, which also named it one of the 10 best films of the year.

Michael Shannon, one of the star’s of Professor Ramin Bahrani’s fifth feature, 99 Homes, is nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture. The film won the Grand Prize at the 2015 Deauville American Film Festivaland competed for the Golden Lion at the 71st Venice International Film Festival. Shannon has also received SAG and Independent Spirit Award nominations for his performance.

The Golden Globes, held by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, will be held on January 10, 2016 at 8 pm EST. NBC will broadcast the ceremony live.
