Film - Production Continuation for Summer 2020 8-12s and D4s & Thesis Completion Status
8-12 Productions
Rising 2nd year students (entered Fall 2019)
- Rising 2nd year students (who entered Fall 2019) can begin shooting 8-12s under Phase 1 Production beginning September 8, 2020.
- Students may complete their 8-12s at any time during their time in the program, prior to beginning their Thesis-level films.
- Students must follow the production rules at the time of their production, per the Production Phase is in effect at the time of principal photography.
All 8-12s must complete the full 8-12 PAB process (including securing D2 faculty approval as a first step) before beginning principal photography. All 8-12 and other Production policies are in effect for the duration of Production Continuation.
Graduation extension: The matriculation cap for rising 2nd year students is has been extended to 4.5 years (Feb graduation) with their advisor’s approval, due to production time lost during the pandemic.
D4 Productions
Rising 3rd year students (entered Fall 2018)
- Rising 3rd year students (who entered Fall 2018) can begin shooting 8-12s under Phase 1 Production beginning September 8, 2020.
- Students may complete their D4s at any time during their time in the program, prior to beginning their Thesis-level films.
- Students must follow the production rules at the time of their production, per the Production Phase is in effect at the time of principal photography.
All D4s must complete the full D4 PAB process (including securing D4 faculty approval as a first step) before beginning principal photography. All D4 and other Production policies are in effect for the duration of Production Continuation.

First Eligible Semester:
- Rising 2nd year students (entered 2019): Spring 2022
- Rising 3rd year students (entered 2018): Spring 2021
Financial Impact during the Thesis Completion semester/s:
- You will not pay tuition or SOA Research Arts fees. You will be required to pay University fees.
- Students are not eligible for Service or TA/Teaching Fellow positions, but are eligible for Casual positions.
- Thesis Completion confers full-time status, so US Students and Permanent Residents will be eligible for student loans.
Requirements during the Thesis Completion semester/s:
- You may choose up to two Thesis Completion semesters, but they must be consecutive.
- All students must graduate after the 2nd Thesis Completion semester.
- Students cannot withdraw and choose Thesis Completion after reentry to the Program.
- Students will be enrolled in Thesis Advisement class, but cannot take/audit any other Research Arts classes or receive advisement on other projects.
- Students must maintain health insurance per University rules.
