Film - Post Update
Dear Students.
We are writing with an update as to what to expect heading into the Fall semester. We are still working to determine the viability and a timeline for Fall in-person access to Dodge edit labs. We will keep you updated in the coming weeks. We will be sharing instructions and holding webinars about how to access technical support remotely and work effectively from home. The following concerns those first year and second year students that will take the Tech Arts Post Production classes.
Suggested Technical Requirements for Post Production Classes:
- Tech Arts Post Production 1
- Tech Arts Post Production 2
- Tech Arts - Advanced Post Production Classes
The assignments and coursework for these classes can be completed remotely using the following minimum computer configurations:
macOS
- macOS 10.14.6 Mojave or macOS 10.15.6 Catalina
- Minimum i7 processor
- 16 GB of system memory. 32 GB when using Higher End applications
- Dedicated GPU with at least 2GB of VRAM.
Windows 10
- Windows 10 Update
- Minimum i7 processor
- 16 GB of system memory. 32 GB when using Higher End Applications
- Dedicated GPU with at least 2GB of VRAM
- GPU which supports OpenCL 1.2 or CUDA 10

Laptop Purchasing program
To help support Post classes, and course work including Research Arts Post Production, the school offers a Laptop Purchasing program with a Columbia Discounts and 4 years of AppleCare included -- we have three suggested models depending on what you think you will need while you are in school. If you would like to purchase a laptop through our program, we will be sharing a link with you soon.
The program offers the following configurations:
High End - $$
For students that are going to want to run high end applications and need a lot of processing power and ram to run Avid Software, Adobe Software and Davinci Resolve. This is literally the highest powered laptop that Apple makes.
MacBook Pro 16”
- (065-C87D) - 2.4GHz 8-core Intel Core i9, Turbo Boost up to 5.0GHz
- (065-C944) - AMD Radeon Pro 5600M with 8GB of HBM2 memory
- (065-C87L) - 64GB 2666MHz DDR4 memory
- (065-C87M) - 512GB SSD storage
Mid-Level - $$
This is still a workhorse, but not nearly as powerful in terms of computing power andRam and is priced accordingly. You can still run Avid the Adobe Creative Cloud and Resolve.
13” MacBook Pro
- (065-C8FF) - 2.3GHz quad-core 10th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.1GHz
- (065-C8FG) - Intel Iris Plus Graphics
- (065-C8FK) - 32GB 3733MHz LPDDR4X memory
- (065-C8FN) - 1TB SSD storage
Lower End -- $
13” MacBook Air
- (065-C7V0) - 1.2GHz quad-core 10th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
- (065-C7VM) - Intel Iris Plus Graphics

Remote Lab Access
We are actively creating a solution for fully remote lab access (through which students could control DMC machines remotely). We expect this option to be available at some point in the Fall of 2020. We will announce those details as soon as possible.
