Aralık (Lacuna), a feature film written by current student Selman Nacar has been awarded a grant of 100,000 TL from the Malatya Film Platform. The Official Selections were announced at the 8th Malatya International Film Festival in Istanbul, Turkey.

According to Hurriyet Daily News, “the creation of the Malatya International Film Platform in cooperation with Azerbaijan and state-run Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) was an important initiative.” Started by the film festival in 2017, Malatya Film Platform provides directors and producers with opportunities to develop their projects, and has become an important meeting point for Turkey’s national filmmakers.

Aralik is a film about Kadir, a Turkish immigrant in the US, who finds himself under the iron-tight grip of his destiny - stuck between two vastly different worlds.

According to his website, before pursuing his MFA in Film Directing at Columbia, Nacar graduated from Istanbul Bilgi University Law Faculty in 2015 and Film & Television Faculty in 2016. He produced the feature film The Pillar of Salt in 2017, which premiered at the 68th Berlin Film Festival and Belonging in 2018, which is currently in post-production and selected to the Cinelink Work-in-Progress section at the 24TH Sarajevo Film Festival.
