Although known primarily for her poetry, Associate Professor Dorothea Lasky will release two new prose works in October.

In Animal, Lasky wrestles with the meaning and power of the lyric, metaphysical “I”—that “wild thing,” that “mercurial trickster”— which she examines in four prose pieces, part of the Bagley Wright Lectures, published by Wave Books this month.

This essential poetic energy is harnessed to the cosmos in Astro Poets: Your Guides to the Zodiac (Flatiron Press) that she co-authored with fellow poet and undergraduate creative writing professor, Alex Dimitrov. Dubbed by Publisher’s Weekly as the most anticipated book of the season, Astro Poets elaborates on what has made the authors a Twitter sensation. Offering advice and insight into work and love, The New York Times praised its  “...charming tone, one that unites zeitgeisty interests with ancient knowledge of the solar system.”

A launch party for Lasky and fellow faculty member Timothy Donnelly, whose new book, The Problem of the Many is also being released this month, will take place on September 27 at the Powerhouse Arena in Dumbo.
