Alumnus Will Graham '02 Signs Deal with Amazon Studios

December 17, 2019

Alumnus Will Graham ’02 and his company, Field Trip Productions, have signed a first look deal with Amazon Studios.

As part of the deal, Graham will step into a role as showrunner and executive producer for Daisy Jones & The Six, a new Amazon show produced by Reese Witherspoon’s company, Hello Sunshine.

Daisy Jones & The Six is a musical drama based on Taylor Jenkins Reid’s bestselling novel of the same name, which charts the rise and fall of a fictional 1970s rock band.

Riley Keough (American Honey) and Camila Morrone (Mickey and the Bear) are set to co-star in the musical limited series.

“Amazon has been my home since the beginning, and at this point we are family,” Graham said, according to Deadline. “We couldn’t be more excited.”

Witherspoon, along with Taylor Jenkins Reid, will join as executive producers, amongst others.

“Will is a tremendous talent, with the ability to create fully realized characters and worlds across a broad range of genres,” Amazon COO Albert Cheng said.

Field Trip’s deal also includes its plan to produce the pilot for a remake of Penny Marshall’s 1992 film, A League of Their Own, for Amazon. Graham plans to co-write and executive produce the show alongside Abbi Jacobson (Broad City), who is in talks to star.

The series will be a modern take on the issues faced by the Rockford Peaches, the real-life baseball team depicted in the film, as well as on the issues facing the country in the story’s mid-twentieth century setting, according to Slate.

Graham is known as one of the founders of the Onion News Network, where he worked as showrunner for IFC’s The Onion News Network and Comedy Central’s Onion Sports Dome. Graham then went on to co-create one of Amazon Studios’ first pilots, The Onion Presents: The News.

Alpha House and Salem Rogers are amongst the Amazon original series in which Graham has played a fundamental role, as well as the Golden Globe-winning Mozart in the Jungle, which he executive produced in addition to writing and directing.

Graham co-founded Field Trip Productions in 2017 with former UTA agent Hailey Wierengo.

Neither Daisy Jones & The Six nor A League of Their Own have a release date as of yet.
