Selden Cummings ’23 is a poet and musician from California, currently living in Brooklyn. In addition to reading and writing, he also loves singing and listening, eating and cooking, and skateboarding. His poetry is largely inspired by mythology.
Ines Rodrigues ’23 is a Brazilian writer, teacher, and translator. Her first novel, Days of Bossa Nova (Black Opal Books) was published in 2017. Her short fiction and translations have been published in Tint Journal, 650 Where Writers Read Anthology - At the Bar, and the Word for Word Anthology 2023. Ines is a creative writing instructor at the Writing Institute/Sarah Lawrence College, Westport Writers’ Workshop, and Bronxville Adult School. A former editor of Scarsdale Living Magazine , she currently curates The Scarsdale Salon in partnership with the Scarsdale Public Library and the Salon de Belleville in Paris. Ken Schept ’74 has written three novels: League of Losers, a coming-of-age story set in mid-century New Jersey; Paralysis, a father-son drama based on his experience as a caseworker; and Vows, in which a golden wedding anniversary evokes midlife anxieties about intimacy. Ken’s debut children’s picture book, A Gift of Feathers, was published by Feiwel and Friends, a Macmillan imprint, in 2023. In addition to receiving his MFA from Columbia University, he’s also a business journalist, and is an active member of Columbia Fiction Foundry (2024-25 president), the Writers League of Texas, and the Jewish Book Council.
What is Columbia Selects? Columbia Selects is an alumni reading series hosted by the Columbia MFA Writing Program. In recent years, many of our featured writers have achieved critical and commercial success. This is your chance to glimpse who you'll be reading in 2025!
