Sophie Madeline Dess is a writer from New York, New York. Her novel, What You Make of Me, was published with Penguin Press in 2025 and was listed as one of The New Yorker's "Best Books of 2025". She has written fiction and nonfiction for The Paris Review, The Drift, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, The New Republic, Forever Mag, and elsewhere. Her short story "Unfathomably Deep" will be anthologized in the Best American Short Stories of 2025.
