Gordon Cox

Gordon Cox is a veteran journalist who has chronicled the theater business on Broadway and around the world for more than two decades. His subscription newsletter, Jaques, is the leading source of news, interviews, analysis, and market research about the global theater industry. For 20 years he was a fixture at Variety magazine, where he led the paper's theater coverage and oversaw a world-class team of critics while reporting on everything from the stagehands strike to the Tony Awards, from Hugh Jackman to Hamilton. He also hosted and produced Variety's long-running and award-winning theater podcast, Stagecraft With Gordon Cox. As a freelance writer he's generated incisive business features for publications including American Theatre and Broadway News. As an interviewer, panel moderator, and lecturer, he's curated thought-leading conversations on the business of theater everywhere from Seoul to Montreal to the high seas. A graduate of Princeton University, he got his start in the nonprofit theater sector, first at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco and then at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Prior to joining Variety, he worked at the New York Times and at New York Newsday.
