Galina Nemirovsky
Galina Nemirovsky is a writer, teacher, former advertising executive, and the real-life inspiration for the first female Crimson Dynamo—Marvel’s original nemesis of Iron Man (yes, really). She holds a BA in Journalism from NYU and an MFA in Nonfiction from Columbia University, where she was selected as one of five Creative Writing Teaching Fellows and served as Director of Columbia Artists/Teachers.
She has taught creative writing at Columbia and at independent high schools, and her essays appeared during the golden age of The Huffington Post, SheKnows, and various literary magazines. She has also completed three daunting and wildly different 365 projects, including blogging a deconstructed memoir in essays—because doing things the hard way remains a theme. She is currently working on Draft 8-ish of Vodka and Donuts, a memoir about a Soviet immigrant family’s disillusionment with the American Dream.
Along with her professional clown husband, she is the co-founder of the nonprofit Laughter Happens, where she has witnessed firsthand the medicinal power of laughter in hospitals and clinical spaces.
An immigrant from the former Soviet Union, Galina grew up in New York City and now lives in Fort Lee, New Jersey. In her free time, she attends all kinds of theatre, googles medical conditions, and makes glitter art and watercolors while listening to audiobooks.
