UPDATE: ignitionpress has published Lily Blacksell's debut poetry chapbook, There's No Such Thing, on sale here. According to the publisher, out of Oxford Brookes University in England, reading Blacksell's work "is like watching a tragic movie, going to a comedy show and listening to an album of greatest hits on vinyl, all at the same time."
Lily Blacksell will publish her first pamphlet of poetry with ignitionpress next year.
The press, out of Oxford Brookes University in England, has an international focus and publishes original work by emerging poets, as well as work by established poets working on interim or special projects.
Blacksell is a British writer based in New York City. She is working towards her MFA in poetry at Columbia, where she currently has a fellowship teaching creative writing.
She has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize 2017 and Best New Poets 2017. Her work has appeared in Rockland Lit, Lifejacket, Ink Sweat & Tears, Poet’s Country, Foothill and Magma Poetry. Her reviews and interviews can also be found in Boston Review, Sabotage and Prac Crit.
She has also performed her work at venues including Berl’s Brooklyn Poetry Shop, Bowery Poetry Club and Dead Rabbits. In 2013, UK-based Apples and Snakes commissioned a piece of spoken word theater from Blacksell, which was performed at Lit Fuse. She was a 2015 finalist in the Roundhouse Poetry Slam.
Blacksell is one of three writers to be selected for publication in ignitionpress’ inaugural issue.
The first three pamphlets will go on sale in early 2018, and will be accompanied by a series of launch events.
