Alumna Madeline Stevens '12 to Publish Debut Novel 'Small Night'
June 11, 2018
Alumna Madeline Stevens ’12 is coming out with her literary debut, Small Night, a suspense novel that will be published by Ecco in the U.S. and Faber in the U.K. It is scheduled for release in summer 2019.
Billed as Sweetbitter meets The Perfect Nanny, the novel follows 26-year-old Ella Crawford, a broke New York resident who becomes a nanny for a rich and beautiful Upper East Side couple.
“Ella’s initial resentment of the young mother morphs into a dangerous obsession in this psychologically propulsive debut,” according to Ecco.
Italian rights to the book have sold to Mondadori, and Chinese rights to Citic.
Stevens, of Oregon, lived and worked as a nanny in New York City. Her writing has appeared in Luna Magazine, People Holding and Blunderbuss Magazine, among other literary outlets. She founded the Sundays at Erv’s reading series in Brooklyn.
