Lior Shvil Exhibits PROTOCOLS at Art in General

November 4, 2015

Visual Arts alumnus Lior Shvil’s (’10) PROTOCOLS is being exhibited at Art in General’s 6th Floor Gallery through November 21. The exhibition, created to imitate urban terrain conflict areas, includes large-scale sculpture installations and performances inspired by military counterinsurgency training courses.

A series of improvisational theatre workshops created in collaboration with improv director/actress Hollis Witherspoon are also being held within the gallery’s sixth-floor space, constituting Art in General’s contribution to this year’s Performa 15. On select dates, visitors are invited to participate in an enactment of scripts, exercises and protocols based on Army training manuals and Shvil’s own military experience. These events are free and open to members of the public as spectators or actors. The two remaining performances will be held on November 14 from 4 to 6 pm and November 21 from 4 to 6 pm.

Shvil has had exhibitions at the ICA Museum in Philadelphia; SculptureCenter and Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City, Queens; the Neuberger Museum in Purchase, New York; the RFC Museum in Miami; CAGE and Andrea Rosen Gallery in New York; Recess in Brooklyn; Givon Gallery in Tel Aviv; and High Desert Test Sites in Joshua Tree, California.

Shvil currently lives and works in New York. You can view more of his work here.
