Shiva Kalaiselvan '15 Lands Role in 'Gotham'

Alumna Shiva Kalaiselvan '15 has landed a role on the popular television series, Gotham. She made her debut on March 29 in the episode A Dark Knight: One of my Three Soups. "I'm the leader of the female contingent of the League of Shadows. Rules and loyalty are big for her. She is someone that holds true to the teachings of the League and stands by them no matter what," Kalaiselvan said about her character in an interview with the Star.

Gotham, produced by Warner Bros, is currently in its 4th season. It was developed by Bruno Heller, based on characters published by DC Comics from the Batman franchise, primarily Detective James Gordon and Bruce Wayne. "As the city sinks deeper into chaos, Gotham will continue to follow the evolving stories of the city’s most malevolent villains," according to the series' description.


Originally from South East Asia, Shiva left Malaysia to pursue an undergraduate degree at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. She graduated with a degree in Finance in 2006 and continued in Finance, working as an Investment Banker for three years in Milwaukee and London. In 2009, she traveled the world doing volunteer work In 2009. After receiving her MFA in Acting from Columbia she has produced two theatrical productions with her first company Next In Line Productions LLC: Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me by Frank McGuiness and Exposure by Laura Zlatos; and had her off-Broadway debut as an actress in Classic Stage Company’s Nathan the Wise by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, directed by Brian Kulick and stared F. Murray Abraham. Currently, she is working on her first web content – a short 6 episode web series written by some of the most exciting playwrights in the US.


“You dream of opportunities like this in this business, and you have an idea of what it is going to be like when you get it. But it's more than that. I couldn't have imagined this experience," Shiva told the Star. Extended Skype interview with the Star can be seen here
