Book of Esther received a workshop production in Binghamton, NY in August 2016, and was a semi-finalist for the 2016 Princess Grace Award, a national program dedicated to identifying and assisting emerging theater, dance, and film artists who are at the outset of their careers or at early stages of professional development. The play also won third place in the International Jewish Playwriting Contest from the Jewish Plays Project.
“Within the confines of an Orthodox Jewish community in Brooklyn, a new generation of women is pushing the boundaries. Esther grew up in a loving and religious family, but she is seventeen now and can feel a larger world outside her own. Will her questioning take her too far to come home?” asks the play's description.
Stevensen grew up in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and moved to New York City in 2007 to study at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts where she received her BFA in Drama with a minor in Applied Theater. She completed her primary training at Playwrights Horizons Theater School and went on to study at the Experimental Theater Wing where she focused on acting and creating original work. She studied abroad at the International Theater Workshop: Amsterdam as well as in Bangalore, India with Theater Mitu's South India Artist Intensive.
