Professor James Calleri Casts Acclaimed Hulu Series

April 8, 2016

Faculty member James Calleri cast the critically acclaimed new series The Path, which premiered this week on Hulu.

The Path, which traces the beliefs and relationships of a controversial family-run cult movement, features Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Hugh Dancy (Hannibal) and Michelle Monaghan (True Detective). Indiewire called it "the first great drama series of 2016," with Slate calling it a “uniquely measured, nuanced take on religious extremism” and A.V. Club saying that it “could be among the contenders for the unofficial title of best drama on television.”

Calleri, who works with the MFA Acting candidates in the Theatre Program, also casts for film and theater in addition to television. He was nominated by the Casting Society of America for five Artios Awards for Excellence in Casting last year, winning in the New York Theatre – Comedy category for his casting of A Month in the Country.

Calleri, who joined the School of the Arts faculty in the spring of 2015, has cast for Classic Stage Company, Rattlestick, The Flea, Williamstown and Long Wharf, among other organizations. In addition to Calleri Casting and Playwrights Horizons, he has worked at the Lincoln Center Theater and for ABC Television. He serves on the board of the Casting Society of America and has taught in the Graduate Acting Program at NYU Tisch School of the Arts and at Syracuse University, as well as numerous other schools and colleges across the country.
