April 5, 2016

Playwriting alumna Laura Zlatos’s ’15 play Happily After Ever is being produced by 59E59 Theaters with Ricochet Collective through April 16. The play, which began as Zlatos’s thesis project, was also presented last May as part of Columbia’s New Plays Now festival at Signature Theatre.

Happily After Ever follows newlyweds Darren and Janet after they have a baby with both male and female genitalia. Amid more quotidian struggles—with a perfect next-door couple and a misunderstood family dog, among others—they find themselves in the position of having to choose a gender for their child.

Zlatos is a Brooklyn-based playwright whose recent credits include Things I Never Learned in Physics at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, Three Hours at HERE Arts, Odd.A.See at [email protected]The Light in the Refrigerator at the Strawberry Theatre Festival and Fault Line at the American Avant-Garde Arts Festival. She received her BFA in Dramatic Writing and Gender and Sexuality Studies from NYU, where she is currently pursuing an MA in Performance Studies. She is also a resident playwright at Tisch’s Exquisite Corpse Company.
