Dean Carpenter Named Managing Director of Chicago's About Face Theatre

Dean Carpenter ’09 has been named managing director of About Face Theatre in Chicago. “We are very proud to welcome Dean to the About Face Theatre staff as we head into our 20th anniversary season,” Artistic Director Andrew Volkoff said in a statement. “We’re excited to have him as part of our leadership, and I know that Dean’s breadth of knowledge and experience will be instrumental as we look towards the future.”

In New York, Carpenter worked as the general manager atSecond Stage Theatre from 2011 to 013. He has also served as part of the general management team for touring productions of Wicked and Jersey Boys.

About Face Theatre was founded by Kyle Hall and Eric Rosen in 1995 in response to the lack of LGBT voices within the American theatrical canon. In its 17-year history, the company has developed nearly 60 productions for Chicago audiences, including 46 world premieres. Its About Face Youth Theatre (AFYT) was created in 1999, in the wake of Matthew Shepard’s murder, and is designed to engage queer youth in theatre, activism and empowerment. Its previous managing director, Corinne Neal, stepped down earlier this year.
