CSC's Young Company Presents The Comedy of Errors
March 1, 2017
The Classic Stage Company’s Young Company, comprised of actors from the Columbia MFA Acting Class of 2017, brings The Comedy of Errors to life this March.
The Young Company is dedicated to sharing the works of William Shakespeare with middle and high school students through fun and accessible workshops and performances. Now in its eleventh year, the Young Company has introduced more than 20,000 students in all five New York City boroughs to the power of live theater. The program is overseen by Artistic Director and Columbia Professor Brian Kulick, who is a multi-year recipient of the Shakespeare in American Communities grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
The Young Company also provides Columbia graduate students the opportunity to serve as in-school teaching artists and to participate in post-show discussions with students. In addition, actors who participate in the Young Company are eligible for membership in the Actors Equity Association, preparing them for careers in the theater after graduation.
This year’s play, The Comedy of Errors, follows two sets of twins through a series of mistaken identities, mishaps, and false accusations. The production will be directed by alumna Tyne Rafaeli ’14, who has previously directed A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Othello with the Young Company.
Performances of A Comedy of Errors are scheduled for Friday nights on March 10, 17, and 24 at 7 pm at the Classical Stage Company. Online tickets are $31 and are available here.
