The first comic in the new series Sabretooth by Associate Professor and alumnus Victor LaValle ‘98 will be released by Marvel Comics on January 5, 2022.

The series follows the murderous mutant Sabretooth, previously known as Victor Creed, after his imprisonment on the island of Krakoa. Sabretooth, after his taking of human lives, is sentenced to eternal torment in the Pit of Krakoa. LaValle, alongside artist Leonard Kirk, explores Sabretooth’s time in the Pit and what lies beneath the hellish island.

Last seen in the comic book X-Men in House Of X #6, Sabretooth has also previously appeared in the Sabretooth miniseries in 1993 and 2004, as well as 1996’s Sabretooth and Mystique, and 2002’s Sabretooth: Mary Shelley Overdrive.

During a X-Men roundtable hosted by AIPT (Adventures in Poor Taste), LaValle shared his thoughts on the project, saying “I found myself incredibly geeked that I will get to take a classic, and beloved, villain who has been on the island all along and get to finally start telling his Krakoa story.”

LaValle is the author of the short story collection Slapboxing with Jesus, four novels, The Ecstatic, Big MachineThe Devil in Silver, and The Changeling, and two novellas, Lucretia and the Kroons and The Ballad of Black Tom. He is also the creator and writer of two comic books, Victor LaValle's Destroyer and Eve. LaVelle has received numerous awards including the World Fantasy Award, British Fantasy Award, Bram Stoker Award, Whiting Writers' Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, Shirley Jackson Award, American Book Award, and the key to Southeast Queens.
