July 24, 2018

Alumna Kate Leary '17 was honored as one of four emerging theater-makers who will serve as a Producer-in-Residence at the National New Play Network (NNPN). Leary, who specialized in Dramaturgy at Columbia, will work at Magic Theatre, one of NNPN’s core members, located in San Francisco, CA for the 2018-2019 season.

Founded in 1988, the National New Play Network is “an alliance of professional theaters that collaborate in innovative ways to develop, produce, and extend the life of new plays.”

As a Producer-in-Residence, Leary will be “immersed in the day-to-day, per production, and seasonal operations of a new play theater,” and have the opportunity to “learn about NNPN’s successful models for collaboration, deepen [her] connections to the artists and leaders of the Network, and increase [her] visibility to the field.”

Previously, Leary worked as Magic Theatre's Literary Apprentice, and as an Assistant to the Director of the Safe Harbors Indigenous Theatre Collective at La Mama Theatre in New York City. She is currently a Literary Wing member at The Play Company, and is a freelance dramaturg and literary consultant.
