Acting alumnus Greg Cuellar ’17 recently made his network television debut on NBC's New Amsterdam. Cuellar portrayed an indigenous psychiatric doctor-in-residency, referred to as Resident Chitto, for Episode Two of Season Four, entitled We’re in This Together. The medical drama series began in 2018 and has since gained a loyal following. Viewership for this episode reached 3.5 million.

During the spring, Cuellar starred in a unique COVID-era streaming production of Terrence McNally's It’s Only a Play at George Street Playhouse, opposite Broadway legend and Tony Winner Julie Halston and Tony nominee Andy Groteluschen (Tootsie). Times Square Chronicles reviewed the show and noted Cuellar’s performance in particular, stating, “Greg Cuellar shines sharply throughout as the impossible Brit director with his very unique blend of pomp and circumstance. He uncovers a way through the muck that simply failed Grint in the Broadway production, giving a ridiculously fun portrayal that works. Cuellar flails around in a cunning manner that elevates the part, especially during his little historical puppet show that entertains and connects us to his inner bad boy child.” Due to the play’s success, a live production is scheduled for winter 2021.

Cuellar was the recipient of the Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Arts Award and Columbia University’s Bob Hope Acting Fellowship. He has a background in new work development, improv, sketch writing, and is an environmental activist promoting sustainability practices in theatre. Beyond acting, Cuellar is a stage manager for Yahoo! Finance Live and is both a house manager and an on-camera lab tech for SAG-AFTRA Foundation.
