Two Films by Columbia Directors Receive Gotham Award Nominations

November 4, 2015

Two films by Columbia directors have received Gotham Award nominations: John Magary (’07) received a Bingham Ray Breakthrough Director nomination for The Mend, which he wrote and directed, and Faculty member Ramin Bharani’s film 99 Homes snagged a Best Actor nomination for its star, Michael Shannon. The annual ceremony, presented by the Independent Filmmaker Project, is an early indicator of what films will lead the pack in the coming awards season.

The Mend, a character study of two estranged brothers, Mat and Alan, is Magary’s first feature, and has received rave reviews since its opening. You can see the trailer for the film here.

99 Homes is Bahrani’s fifth feature, and has received much acclaim and awards-season attention, winning the Grand Prize at this year’s Deauville American Film Festival. You can watch a trailer for the film here.

The Gotham Awards will be held in New York City on November 30.
