Two Columbia Films Nominated for SAG Awards

Two films by Columbia filmmakers received Screen Actors Guild Award nominations this month.

Sarah Silverman is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her performance as Laney Brooks in I Smile Back, directed byAdam Salky ’08; the film is based on the novel of the same name by Writing Program alumna Amy Koppelman ’01. In the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role category, Michael Shannon is nominated for his performance as Rick Carver in 99 Homes, directed by faculty member Ramin Bahrani.

Additionally, House of Cards, created by Playwriting alumnus Beau Willimon ’03, is nominated in three categories: Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series (Kevin Spacey), Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series (Robin Wright) and Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. Faculty member Frank Pugliese, who oversees the Film Program’s Television Writing concentration, is a writer on the series.

The SAG awards will be broadcast live on TNT and TBS on January 30, 2016, at 8 pm.
