Film Students and Alumnus Organize CineCina Film Festival

Film students Narcissa Sun, Xiaoyu Shen, Zijing Yu, and alumnus Wentao Ma '18 organized the CineCina Film Season Screenings, a series of Chinese film screenings taking place at the Anthology Film Archives that began earlier this week, and will run through mid-December.


The first annual CineCina Film Festival (CCFF) will be held over four days in March 2019, during which 16 Chinese independent films will be presented. CCFF plans to invite distinguished filmmakers, producers, film industry professionals, and professors in related fields as the first audience of guests.


Narcissa Sun is an aspiring filmmaker and PR coordinator who devotes her passion to quality stories with strong investment in gender equality. Currently, she is a graduate student of Film and Media Studies at Columbia University, aiming to combine her knowledge of film theory and history with filmmaking and producing practices.


Xiaoyu Shen is currently a graduate student of Film at Columbia University. She also holds an undergraduate degree from New York University’s Film, Cinema, and Video Studies program. She has served as an intern for the Shanghai International Film Festival, for Nomadic, and has worked as an Assistant Producer for the Beijing Longrun Culture Media Company.


Zijing Yu is a current member of the Columbia University School of the Arts film community and worked on the development of the CineCina Film Festival alongside a group of similarly interested peers.


Wentao Ma is an Arts Events Manager and Research Assistant of film department at Columbia University. He has worked as curator for serial film exhibitions at Lenfest Center of the Arts, including “Zoom In: MA Students Curate Thesis Project” and “‘Columbia Revolt’ at 50: Remembering the Radical Film and its Moment”. Wentao holds an MA degree in Film and Media Studies from Columbia University and a BA in Media and Communication from Swansea University in UK.
