Shrihari Sathe '09 Premieres New Film at IFC Center
March 27, 2017
A Woman, A Part, co-produced by School of the Arts alumnus Shrihari Sathe ‘09, premiered at the IFC Center last week, on March 22, 2017. The film, which stars Maggie Siff, Cara Seymour, John Ortiz, and Khandi Alexander, has received much critical praise after premiering at high profile festivals. It was selected for the Hivos Tiger Awards Competition at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and was an Official Selection at the Bam Cinema Fest.
The film is about Anna, a successful LA actress, who abruptly walks off her mind-numbing, sexist network show. She runs away to New York, hoping to reconnect with two old friends, former theater collaborators she'd abandoned for Hollywood who now find themselves struggling to survive in the rapidly gentrifying city. As Anna's arrival tears open old wounds all three are forced to reckon with their past and uncertain futures.
Kate Erbland, of Indiewire, said, “Elisabeth Subrin’s A Woman, A Part, takes on the industry with grace, insight, and some big ideas.” Brian Tellerico of RogertEbert.comsaid, “Subrin’s drama is an insightful, heartfelt examination of acting, and how it can allow us to access emotional parts of ourselves that we otherwise wouldn’t…”
A Woman, A Part is also slated to play at the Atlanta Film Festival, Sonoma International Film Festival, and the Laemmle Music Hall.
