James Mangold '99 Directs Latest X-Men Hit, Logan

School of the Arts alumnus James Mangold ‘99 directed the smash hit Logan, which premiered on March 3rd in the United States to critical and commercial acclaim. The final chapter in Hugh Jackman’s career-defining performance as the mutant Wolverine, Logan soared ahead of the competition by taking in over $87 million in its opening weekend. This ranks the film as the 4th best R-Rated domestic opening of all time. Logan was produced by fellow Film alumnus Simon Kinberg '03.
The film is also a huge critical success, with critics praising its grisly action, compelling characters, and terse plot. It’s been called “The best Wolverine movie” by Empire magazine and the “boldest and most affecting superhero flick in many years” by NPR. Logan easily ranks as the biggest opening success in the Wolverine trilogy, and is the most acclaimed opening for an R-rated movie in March.
