Assistant Professor Aliza Nisenbaum, Professor Rirkrit Tiravanija, and Adjunct Assistant Professor Gina Beavers are featured alongside Alumni Uri Aran ’07 and Mika Rottenberg ’04 in the group exhibition 100 Drawings from Now in New York, NY at The Drawing Center.
100 Drawings from Now presents a group of international artists and “provides a snapshot of artistic production during a period of profound global unrest that has resulted from the ongoing health and economic crises, as well as a surge of activism in response to systemic racism, social injustice, and police brutality in the United States. Together, the works in the exhibition spotlight the urgency, intimacy, and universality of drawing during moments of upheaval and isolation,” according to the press release.
The exhibition attempts to both make sense of and adapt the current circumstances of daily life through drawing. Beaver’s piece manifests the psychological impact of this period through expressions of anxiety, fear, and rage. While Tiravanija’s work is “more overtly political, directly addressing endemic, societal inequalities, and systems of oppression.”
The Drawing Center is located in downtown Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood and “explores the medium of drawing as primary, dynamic, and relevant to contemporary culture, the future of art, and creative thought,” according to The Drawing Center.
100 Drawings from Now is also accompanied by a softcover book available for purchase in person and from their online bookstore. There will also be a free digital version on the website.
100 Drawings from Now opened to the public on October 7, 2020, and will remain on view through January, 17, 2021. All visitors will need to make a free, timed-entry reservation prior to their visit. The Drawing Center is open Wednesdays through Sunday from 12 pm to 6 pm.
