November 13, 2018
The Dark, written and directed by alumnus Justin P. Lange '14 was picked up by Dark Sky Films and received a theatrical and VoD release on October 26th. The film is Lange’s first feature length production and is based on his thesis short at Columbia University.
The Dark is produced by Austria’s DOR Films in co-production with Canadian First Love Films and was shot entirely in Northern Ontario. It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival this year and screened at several other International and Genre festivals including Stockholm Film Festival, Fantasia and Fantaspoa Film Festival where it won the Best Screenplay award. As described on bloody-disgusting.com, The Dark is “part gothic fairytale and part chilling horror, director Justin P. Lange’s debut feature balances rich imagery with a brutal and bloody story of unlikely kindred spirits who must defend themselves against the villainous powers of the ‘normal’ world”. The website also calls it “One of 2018’s Must-See Horror Films” with a 93% critic’s rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Lange currently resides in Los Angeles, where he has several feature films in development and as mentioned on his website “He only wears red shoes”. His latest project Theresa has been selected for Frontiéres Co-Production Market.
