BY Zoe Contros Kearl, October 18, 2018
Current student Erica Stisser was named a winner of the 2018 William Faulkner Literary Prize for her short story, “A Vague Recollection.”
Stisser says of this prize, “The award is especially meaningful for me because Faulkner is an incredible inspiration for my work. His writing is atmospheric and pays such incredible attention to the cadence of sentences, as well as to the emotional development of each voice in the story.”
The William Faulkner Literary Competition celebrates the birthplace of Faulkner, New Albany, through an annual literary contest founded in 1997. The contest includes the categories of Novel, One Act Play, Poetry, Adult Short Story, and Student Short Story. A reception for winners was held at the William Faulkner Museum in New Albany, Mississippi. The announcement was published in local newspapers in what’s known as the Southern Literary Trail. The trail is a region within Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia where many great American writers were inspired to create their works.
Erica Stisser is a writer living and working in New York.
