Columbia Selects: MFA Readings at the KGB Bar

Our lineup this month:

 

Ge Gao '17 is a Chinese writer, editor, and translator based in New York. She received her BA in philosophy and cultural and media studies from the University of Minnesota, and her MFA in creative nonfiction from the Columbia University School of the Arts. Her reporting and essays have appeared in Twin Cities Daily PlanetWords Without Borders. In 2017, she participated in the New York Foundation of Arts Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program. She has received fellowships from Vermont Studio Center, Catwalk Art Residency, and Cuttyhunk Island Residency. She is working on a collection of essays about cultural relativism and identity. She now lives in a Quaker’s house with twenty-four other housemates in the East Village.

 

Julia Bosson '16 is a writer and educator based in Brooklyn. Originally from Ojai, California, Julia received her MFA in creative nonfiction from Columbia University. Her essays, criticism, and other works have been featured in publications such as Lenny LetterGuernicaTabletVICERumpus, and BOMB, among others, and she has received residencies from the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild and the Wassaic Project. She is currently at work on a nonfiction project responding to the Berlin journalism of Joseph Roth, and a novel about the intersection of narrative and desire. She teaches writing at Baruch College and Cooper Union.

 

Brenna McPeek '18 is a writer currently based in New York City.  She is a graduate of Cornell University and recently completed her MFA in Fiction at Columbia University.  Her writing has appeared in Thoughtful Dog. She works as a copywriter and serves as a contributing editor at the online journal Drizzle Review. She has recently finished writing her first novel about chaotic grief, subversive femininity and Baptist Texas. 

 

What is Columbia Selects? The first Thursday of each month the Columbia MFA program hosts a reading series featuring Writing Program alumni. These fresh talents are finished with or near to finished with their first books, but do not yet have a book contract and/or an agent. In recent years, many of our featured writers have achieved critical and commercial success. This is your chance to glimpse who you'll be reading in 2020!
