Columbia Selects: MFA Readings at KGB Bar
What is Columbia Selects? The first Thursday of each month the Columbia MFA program hosts a reading series featuring Writing Program alumni. These fresh talents are finished with or near to finished with their first books, but do not yet have a book contract and/or an agent. In recent years, many of our featured writers have achieved critical and commercial success. This is your chance to glimpse who you'll be reading in 2018!
Our lineup this month:
Judy Bolton Fasman’s writing has appeared in the New York Times, the Boston Globe, The Rumpus, Modern Loss, WBUR-NPR's Cognoscenti, the Forward, O Magazine and the Huffington Post. She has also published excerpts of her memoir-in-progress, With Love From Harold, in Tablet Magazine, Lunch Ticket, Brevity, Cleaver Magazine, 1966: A Journal of Creative Non-Fiction, Rappahannock Review, Tahoma Literary Review and Blue Lyra Review. Parts of the book were written at The Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts in Virginia.
Tye Pemberton's short stories and nonfiction have appeared domestically and internationally in Versal, Watchword, We Still Like, The Rumpus, and BookTrib, with a new essay about superhero movies forthcoming at PopMatters. He is currently at work on The Inquiry, a novel about Herodotus interviewing prisoners of war, and a choose-your-own-adventure-style nonfiction collection called There is No Moral at the End of This Book.
Laura Jean Moore’s award-winning stories, essays, and poetry have been featured in VICE, the Brooklyn Rail, [PANK], the EEEL at the Los Angeles Review of Books, Hobart and elsewhere. She is a regular columnist at Change Seven and formerly an assistant editor at NOON. She is also the co-creator and once-co-host of Livin’ and Lovin’ in NYC, a rad podcast about sex, relationships, queerness, heteroshit, and general mayhem that has been featured in the Village Voice, WNYC, Thrillist and FILTHY. Starboi, her current novel, chronicles the misadventures of a bisexual fuckup pretending mediocrity to make it to the end.
Columbia Selects is curated by Bryan VanDyke and Emily Austin.
