Our line up this month: Melody Nixon '14, Lacy Warner '16, and Aaron Allen '12.
Melody Nixon is a New Zealand-born writer living between NYC and the Bay Area. She is the interviews editor of Amherst College-based literary journal The Common, and a cofounder of Apogee Journal. Her work has been published in BOMB Magazine, Conjunctions, Cura Magazine, Electric Literature, Guernica, and The Literary Hub, among others. She is currently pursuing a PhD in the History of Consciousness at UCSC, and recently completed work on a postcolonial memoir titled Forms of Disquiet.
Lacy Warner has had several essays published in The Tin House/Open Bar, Guernica, The Columbia Journal, Narratively, and others. Roxane Gay published her essay, "Snaggle Tooth," on The Butter. She has an MFA in Nonfiction Writing from Columbia University and an MA in Text and Performance from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and Kings College, London. Aaron Allen’s recent fiction has been published at Tin House’s Open Bar and his manuscript New Myth recently won the Utah Original Writing Competition. In addition to his Columbia MFA, he holds an MA in literature from Brigham Young University.
What is Columbia Selects? The first Thursday of each month the Columbia MFA program hosts a reading series featuring Writing Program alumni. These fresh talents are finished with or near to finished with their first books, but do not yet have a book contract and/or an agent. In recent years, many of our featured writers have achieved critical and commercial success.
