Alfonso Herrera Salcedo

Alfonso Herrera Salcedo is a Mexican cinematographer based between Mexico City and New York City.

His most notable work includes A Love Song (2022), directed by Max Walker-Silverman starring Dale Dickey and Wes Studi. The film premiered at Sundance, Berlinale, and Tribeca, amongst many other festivals. It received two Independent Spirit Award nominations (Best Lead Performance and the John Cassavetes Award). The film was theatrically distributed by Bleecker Street and Sony Stage 6.

Other feature films include Ex-Husbands (2023), directed by Noah Pritzker and starring Griffin Dunne, which premiered at the San Sebastián Film Festival, and A Perfect Day for Caribou (2022), starring Charlie Plummer, which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival.

Most recently, Alfonso worked on Rebuilding, directed by Max Walker-Silverman and starring Josh O’Connor and Meghann Fahy, set to premiere at Sundance in 2025.

Alfonso has earned recognition for his work in independent narrative filmmaking. He received the Bisato d’Oro for Cinematography at the Venice International Film Festival (2021) for the feature El hoyo en la cerca, directed by Joaquín del Paso. Other accolades include the László Kovács Golden Tadpole at the Camerimage Film Festival (2019) and the Kodak/UFTV Cinematography Vision Award (2018) for his collaboration with Max Walker-Silverman on the short film Lefty/Righty, starring Lewis Pullman.

In 2020, Alfonso was honored with the ARRI Volker Bahnemann Award for Outstanding Cinematography. Additional award-winning projects include Entre tú y Milagros, directed by Colombian filmmaker Mariana Saffon, which won the Orizzonti Award for Best Short Film at the Venice International Film Festival (2020); The Trees, directed by Syrian-American filmmaker Ramzi Bashour, which earned the International Special Jury Prize at the Clermont-Ferrand International Film Festival (2021); and Chuj Boys of Summer, directed by Max Walker-Silverman, which received a Special Jury Award at SXSW (2021).
