Conversation with Book Critic Laura Miller
Introduced by Ben Marcus

Laura Miller, of Salon, will discuss the process of reviewing fiction. She'll talk about what she looks for in a novel, and most especially what she looks for in a novel by a first-timer or otherwise unknown author. This is a chance to hear what a leading book reviewer would say to a beginning novelist. The short talk will be followed by a Q&A, so please bring your questions.

Laura Miller is a journalist and critic living in New York. She is a co-founder of Salon.com, where she is currently a staff writer, and a regular contributor to the New York Times Book Review. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, the Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, the Guardian newspaper and other publications. She is the author of "The Magician's Book: A Skeptic's Adventures in Narnia" (Little, Brown, 2008) and editor of the "The Salon.com Reader's Guide to Contemporary Authors" (Penguin, 2000).
