The alternatively vibrant and moody work of Pattie Lee Becker unfolds as a vague subconscious world of unexpected proportions. Through drawing, printmaking, sewing, ceramics and woodworking, familiar and foreign forms arise in hauntingly playful relationships. Becker's symbol-infused narrative produces ambassadors from dreamlike memories and psychological landscapes, stepping forward between the unbound possibilities of abstraction and the limits of representation.

Raised in the great Midwest, Pattie Lee Becker spent her childhood surrounded by prairie and open sky. After graduating from Rhode Island School of Design, she moved her studio to Brooklyn, NY, where she spent a decade before relocating to the Rocky Mountains. She holds an MFA from Columbia University's School of the Arts and has been awarded numerous residencies and fellowships. She currently teaches art at Naropa University and the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design.

ARTIST WORKSHOP
Soft Sculpture
w/ Pattie Lee Becker

2PM-5PM @Illiterate Gallery

For this month's Illiterate Artist Workshop, multidisciplinary artist Pattie Lee Becker will lead participants through her process of developing a two dimensional drawing into a three dimensional sewn soft sculpture. Participants should come prepared with a drawing, which they will bring to life utilizing fabric and fiber fill stuffing. All skill levels are welcomed, from experienced drawers and crafters to those who are picking up a pencil for the first time and have never sat behind a sewing machine.

Our favorite local craft center, Fancy Tiger Craft will be sponsoring this workshop and supplying fabric for those who are not bringing their own materials. Sewing machines will be on hand and provided for all participants, though if you have your own you wish to use, feel free to bring it along.
