Columbia University School of the Arts Film Program Associate Professor Eric Mendelsohn's film 3 Backyards has been selected to screen in the New Directors/New Films festival presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Museum of Modern Art, which runs March 24-April 4.
The festival, now in its 39th year, showcases fresh and innovative work by emerging filmmakers. Mendelsohn's film, for which he won the Directing Award at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival in January, will screen March 26 at the Film Society and March 28 at MoMA.
In addition, Night Catches Us, written by Tanya Hamilton, who attended the School of the Arts Film Program, was selected to screen at New Directors/New Films. Night Catches Us screened in Dramatic Competition at Sundance this year. Hamilton's film will screen March 28 at the Film Society and March 29 at MoMA.
For the past two years, a film directed and written by a Columbia University School of the Arts Film Program alumna opened the New Directors/New Films festival: Amreeka by Cherien Dabis (SOA '04) in 2009, and Frozen River by Courtney Hunt (SOA '94) in 2008.
