Film Alum Wins Awards at the Sundance Film Festival
Andrea Chignoli ('07) edited two films which won awards at Sundnace. Young and Wild won for the category World Cinema Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic, and Violetta Went to Heaven won the World Cinema Screenwriting Award. more ►
 
Producing Alum Jakob Jaffke Wins at Sundance
Sleepwalk With Me, produced by Jacob Jaffke (’10) was mentioned in the Hollywood Reporter and won the Audience Award in NEXT category at Sundance. more ►
 
Current Film Student Receives Award and Praise at Slamdance Festival
The Slamdance Grand Jury Sparky Award for BEST Short Film was awarded to I Am John Wayne by Christina Choe (current 4th year Directing), "for its unique storytelling, cinematography and performances, including the brilliant use of a real horse in an urban environment." more ►
 
Film Alum Marshall Lewy in Filmmaker Magazine
Marshall Lewy’s ('06) was featured in Filmmaker Magazine. more ►  His film California Solo was also selected by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the 10 Best Musical Films at Sundance 2012.  An interview with Lewy at Sundance can be seen here

•  Theatre Alum Beau Willimon Receives Oscar Nomination
Alum Willimon (Playwriting '03) receives a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay along with George Clooney and Grant Heslov for The Ides of March, which was adapted from his play Farragut North. more ►
 
Diane Paulus in The New York Times
Directing alum Paulus is featured in Arts Beat in the NYT, announcing that she will direct "Amaluna" a production by Cirque de Soleil in April 2012.  Paulus is the director of acclaimed "'The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess" which recently opened on Broadway. more
 
Directing Alum Jay Schieb's World of Wires at The Kitchen
Jay Schieb (Directing '02) adapted and directs "World of Wires" a mixed media play at The Kitchen.  The New York Times reviews the play which ran from  January 6 -21. more
 
Playwriting Alum Wins 2012 Laurents/Hatcher Award
Alum Jon Kern is the recipient of the esteemed Laurents/Hatcher Award, which provides the winning playwright with a $50,000 cash prize and $100,000 in funding. more ►

Faculty Tomas Vu Exhibits A Solo Show and Guest Lectures at Sonoma State University
Faculty Vu will open Sonoma State University's Visiting Arts Lecture Series on February 1.  Vu is also the subject of a solo show at Sonoma State's Art Gallery which opens February 2, with an opening reception from 4 -6 PM. more ►

Faculty Cris Beam Publishes New Book Mother, Stranger
Published by Atavist, Faculty Beam's new book is excerpted by The Huffington Post.
On Mother, Stranger:
Cris Beam left her mother’s home at age 14, driven out by a suburban household of hidden chaos and mental illness. Her mother, a distant relative of William Faulkner, told neighbors and family that her daughter had died. The two never saw each other again. Nearly twenty-five years later, after building her own family and happy home life, a lawyer called to say her mother was dead. In this story about the fragility of memory and the complexity of family, Beam decides to look back at her own dark history, and for the secret to her mother’s madness. more ►

Literary Translation at Columbia University
LTAC Students Yardenne Greenspan and Tara Fitzgerald were awarded fellowships from the American Literary Translations Association (ALTA) to attend their annual conference.  Fiction student Greenspan's piece about the conference is featured on the front page of the ALTA newsletter. more ►
