To mark the opening of the Columbia University Mideast Research Center in Amman, Jordan, the School of the Arts commissioned several pieces from the LeRoy Neiman Center for Print Studies for the global center.

For the same celebration, the School of the Arts worked in partnership with the Arts Initiative and the Music Department to send five students from the Columbia University Jazz Ensemble to Amman, to play at the opening event and a related event at the American Embassy in Jordan. The students were invited to attend a celebratory dinner at the Royal Palace hosted by Her Majesty Rania Al Abdullah, Queen of Jordan.
