Katharina Otto-Bernstein, an award-winning filmmaker (Absolute Wilson) and an alumna of Columbia University School of the Arts (1992) and Columbia College (1986), has made a commitment of $5 million to create a state-of-the-art film screening room in the Lenfest Center for the Arts, a multi-arts facility now under construction on the University’s Manhattanville campus. more

Jennifer Lee ('05 SOA) and Phil Johnston ('04 SOA) have authored the script for Disney's newest animated film, Wreck-It Ralph, released this November and directed by Richard Moore (The Simpsons, Futurama). The movie follows Ralph, an arcade-game villain, as he attempts to make the transition from villain to hero. more
 
Film Adjunct, Christina Lazaridi, has co-written the upcoming feature, Coming Up Roses, starring Bernadette Peters. The film, directed and co-written by Lisa Albright, takes a look at the familial dynamics between a single mother (Peters), her young daughter, and her distanced older daughter. more

The Austin Film Festival launches this year featuring the accomplishments of Columbia students and alumni. This year’s festival will take place October 18-25. Known for supporting the process and product of the screenwriter, the Austin Film Festival has celebrated the art of filmmaking for nineteen years with past participants such as Oliver Stone, Sydney Pollack, Wes Anderson, and Ron Howard. more
 
Set to feature six Columbia films, the 13th Annual Woodstock Film Festival will take place this year October 10-14. California Solo, written and directed by Marshall Lewy (’06 SOA), will screen for two nights of the five-day event.  The film stars Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting, 28 Weeks Later) and was a 2012 Sundance select. more
 
The 2012 Hampton’s International Film Festival will highlight many achievements of faculty, students, and alumni of the School of the Arts. Writer/director Justin Schwarz (’02 SOA) will screen The Discoverers Saturday, October 6. This marks the world premiere for Schwarz’s first feature. more
