Founded in Spring 2003, the Interdisciplinary Arts Council (IAC) is the official, representative student council of Columbia School of the Arts. It is comprised of thirteen members, three students from the Film, Theater, Visual Arts, and Writing programs, and one student from the Film Studies program. Our mission is to promote dialogue, collaboration and foster a nurturing community for students through the following principal activities:
-
Present and promote new work by SOA students through Panoply, IAC’s flagship event. Panoply is held twice a year to showcase the work of all disciplines of School of the Arts through readings, performances, film screenings, and exhibitions with the aim to bridge gaps and encourage new conversations and potential collaborations.
-
Fund student group activities and events. Funding is provided to registered student groups that have successfully fulfilled the requirements outlined in the IAC’s funding guidelines.
-
Provide funding opportunities to support new initiatives and/or artwork through Art Works, a new grant-giving program. Art Works provides grants on a rolling basis pending approval by the Council.
-
Host school-wide events to nurture community spirit, such as IAC’s Welcome and Halloween Parties on-campus.
-
Plan Arts Nights Out, off-campus, arts-related activities in which students are provided free tickets to various events around the city.
-
Advocate for the needs of Columbia School of the Arts’ student body. Students are encouraged to contact their representatives with any concerns or questions.
IAC members are elected for three semester terms and elections are held at the beginning of every semester. All students are notified via their Columbia email of upcoming elections. The Council can be reached at iacsoa@columbia.edu.
