Philip Kaufman by Annette Insdorf
16-Apr-12

Professor Annette Insdorf published a new book on director Philip Kaufman in March 2012 as part of University of Illinois Press' "Contemporary Film Directors" series. The book is a study of Kaufman's work, and is the first book about the director of "The Unbearable Lightness of Being," "Henry & June," "Quills," "The Right Stuff" and more.

Professor Insdorf and Kaufman introduced screenings of "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" and "The Right Stuff" at the Museum of Modern Art's April Retrospective of his work.

Professor Insdorf will have a book signing at the Columbia University Bookstore on April 24th at 6 PM (Broadway at 115th St), and will appear at the Museum of the Moving Image on April 28th at 5 PM, before a screening of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers."

The book was hailed by Leonard Maltin on Indiewire as "a thoughtful, scholarly study of one of America's most underrated filmmakers," and the Directors Guild of America called it "perceptive and immersive."
