Film Alumnus Florin Serban: 2011 Oscar Contender, Silver Bear at Berlin Film Festival

Columbia University School of the Arts Film Program alumnus Florin Serban ('08SOA) won the Silver Bear: Jury Grand Prize at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival--the runner-up to best picture at the festival--for his film "Eu cand vreau sa fluier, fluier" ("If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle") in February 2010.

Serban also won the festival's Alfred Bauer Prize. Additionally, Film Program alumna Lisa Cholodenko ('97SOA) won the festival's Teddy - Queer Film Award: Best Feature Film for her film "The Kids Are All Right."

"Eu cand vreau sa fluier, fluier" ("If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle") will screen at the 46th Chicago International Film Festival that begins October 7. The film was also recently submitted as a contender for the 2011 Oscar in the foreign-language category, representing Romania.
